Georgia State Sen. Beach Slams ‘Concentration Camp’ Overcrowding in Fulton County Jail, Blames Fani Willis

Georgia State Senator Brandon Beach (R-Alpharetta) compared the conditions of the Fulton County Jail to a “concentration camp,” pointing to the 10 deaths at the facility so far this year, and the facility’s overcrowding, as evidence that Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis (D) is not doing her job.

Beach (pictured above) condemned Willis during an appearance on “The John Fredericks Show” on Tuesday, suggesting that Willis is “obsessed” with prosecuting former President Donald Trump “for her own political gain.”

“She’s not doing her job,” Beach told Fredericks, the publisher of The Georgia Star News. “We had six people die in the Fulton County Jail in the last 30 days, 10 people this year, because there are no murder cases being heard, there are no rape cases being heard.”

Beach added, “You’ve got overcrowding.”

The latest inmate death at the facility was on September 3, after 24-year-old Shandre Delmore was found unresponsive in his cell on August 31. Though jail staff attempted to resuscitate him, Delmore died at Grady Memorial Hospital days later. Five other inmates died in the previous month.

“Fulton County Jail is a concentration camp that is out of control,” Beach said. He added that the jail would not be overcrowded if not for a backlog of cases that Willis estimated could take “another 18 months” to try in January.

Beach relayed to Fredericks, “I talked to a Superior Court judge the other day, he has not heard a case in three years. He’s doing nothing… He’s being paid to be a judge, and he can’t get any cases because she’s obsessed with Donald Trump,” said Beach. “She’s obsessed with this political witch hunt for her own political gain.”

Fredericks pivoted to Republican leadership in the Georgia Senate, which sparred with its grassroots and Senator Colton Moore (R-Trenton) over his petition for a special session to defund or impeach Willis.

“We’ve been wanting to have a press conference,” Beach said, revealing that the discussions started after State Senator Shawn Still was included in the indictments against former President Donald Trump and those who helped him contest the 2020 election. He acknowledged to Fredericks that Senate leadership has no current plans to hold one.

“We should have had a press conference the day after the indictment, in my opinion.” Beach added, “We should have had an action plan.”

Mallory Staples, the Georgia state director of the Freedom Caucus, who is backing Moore’s call for a special session, told The Star News the legislature should act to reign in Willis, highlighting the jail conditions as evidence.

“We’ve got six inmates dead in six weeks,” said Staples, lamenting that “Republican senators in the Georgia General Assembly” would “rather sit by and let one of their own, [Senator] Shawn Still, be investigated by this corrupt woman” instead of “stepping forward to say, ‘I think we need to call a special session and investigation this person.'”
